In a game of runs, the Tigers frosh got the last word, as they took the lead in the 4th-quarter and never relinquished it, beating the Sunset Apollos 45-39. Newberg struggled shooting the ball on the night and committed 18 turnovers, but some impressive stops in the final quarter and 72% shooting from the free-throw line helped the Tigers gut out a defining win. Winning the rebound battle 37-33 and getting seven loose balls to the Apollos’ five were other statistics that made the difference in a scrappy, physical game that took resolve and toughness to win. Sol Byles scored 12 of his 18 points at the charity stripe, and Cody Burger hit 4 of 6 FT’s down the stretch as part of his 10 points. Sam Murphy put together an impressive game with 6 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, and John Delay was tough in the paint again, pulling down 10 rebounds.
