The Boys Freshman Basketball team put on a defensive clinic in a 29-9 victory Tuesday night at Century High School. After allowing only seven points in the first half, the Tigers did not allow a field goal the entire second half and held the Jaguars scoreless the final 15:30 of the game. 13 deflections, four steals, and forcing multiple turnovers helped propel the effort. On the offensive end, Newberg shot a solid 40% (14-35) from the field, and shared the bell very well, with 8 of their 14 field goals coming off of assists. Sam Murphy had four of those assists. Cody Burger led the Tigers in scoring once again, with another double digit night (10 pts) on 5-10 shooting. Burger also had two rebounds and two steals. Sonny Apilando went 3-4 and had six points, two rebounds, and an assist, and Keenan Lucas put together another solid all-around game, scoring four points, grabbing five rebounds, and recording an assist, a block, and three deflections. The defensive effort and focus was there from each and every Tiger, and showed the potential of this team when they are ALL-IN, ZONED-IN!
